Couple Arrested in Phuket over Alleged Pyramid Scheme

A Thai couple have surrendered themselves to police after arrest warrants were issued against them in June, reports The Nation.

Damrongsak Pitisuk and his wife Pornthicha’s are accused of public fraud and transnational crime.

A total of 160 arrest warrants were issued over this case, with 73 suspects now arrested and 31 on the run outside of Thailand.

Deputy chief of the Consumer Protection Police, Colonel Angkul Klaikleung, said at a press conference yesterday that transactions of roughly Bt30 million had been connected to the couples bank accounts. He said:

“We will continue our investigation and are eager to arrest more suspects, 10 of whom we believe are still in Phuket.”

It is alleged that he couple lured 100 people to join the international 10 billion baht pyramid scheme ‘UFUN’ under a network allegedly led by main suspect Apichanat Saenkla, who has already been arrested.
