Spain Imposes Import Ban on Thai Seafood Company

Spain is the latest country to ban imports of frozen shrimp and seafood from Thai company, Charoen Pokphand Foods, due to allegations of slave labor in the Thai fishing industry, reports The Nation.

According to The Nation, Niwat Sutemechaikul, director-general of the Thai Fisheries Department, was notified that many supermarkets in both Europe and the United States had stopped placing orders and carrying CPF products.

Chanintr Chalisarapong, chairman of the Thai Tuna Industry Association, told Spanish online newspaper, La Informacion, that while Thailand is cracking down on human trafficking, it did not neglect to provide fair wages and benefits to migrant workers.
