The US State department has been accused of “diplomatic impropriety”, Sputnik reports, after Russian speaker Valentina Matvienko, was only granted a limited US visa.

Matvienko was due to lead Russia’s delegation at the UN-held 4th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, however, according to the speaker of Russia’s lower house of parliament Sergei Naryshkin, this is no longer possible.

He told reporters on Friday:

“I cannot but address another rudeness on the part of the US State Department. The limits and standards of diplomatic impropriety are being set today in Washington.”
