Up to 150 Thai firms are facing prosecution after the Thai police’s Economic Crime Suppression Division (ECSD) started raiding companies they believed were using pirated software.

As the Bangkok Post reports, Thailand is a hotbed of pirated software, with many international companies who own the software keeping a close eye on Thailand.

It has been suggested that the general Thai public do not view piracy as a great crime. However, companies should be aware not only of the legal implications, but also that pirated software frequently has security gaps, leaving them vulnerable to hacks and information leaks.

The ECSD has been performing raids of business they suspect of using pirated programs since the beginning of 2015.

Any business found to have used pirated software face fines between 20,000 – 200,000 baht for violating Section 69 of the Copyright Act.
